Tropical LeafEater Enamel Earrings

€290.00

Green-bluish leaf-shaped enamel earrings, secured with a pearl-studded silver ear post.

The intricate enamelling process of sifting many layers of light green, dark green, turquoise-blue enamel over one another results in this compelling colour grading.

My LeafEater series is inspired by the delicate patterns on leaves left ravaged by hungry insects. As I paid closer attention, I noticed how different plants attract different predators, and how they each have their unique patterns. Although these leaves might look similar from a distance, they are never actually quite the same. In an attempt to get to know a leaf intimately, I play with these patterns, study the subtle colours, jagged edges, and lace-like cutouts. Each leaf is meticulously hand-sawn and kiln-enamelled with multiple layers.

Materials: Enamel on copper, sterling silver post (oxidised). Adorned with blue-grey sustainably sourced freshwater pearls.

Hand-sawn, enamelled, fabricated. One-of-a-kind and hand-made in Bamberg.
Stud comes with extra sturdy fabricated sterling silver butterfly.

How should you care for your enamel jewellery?

Enamelling is an ancient traditional technique of fusing coloured glass onto metal. The vibrant, luminous colours of enamelled objects can endure for millenia. While an enamelled surface is very durable, it is also, by nature, fragile. Take care not to drop your jewellery onto hard surfaces or step onto it. To be safe, keep your enamel treasures in a separate container from your other jewellry - especially when travelling - to avoid pieces clanging together or damaging each other. Enamel is heat resistant (up to 700 Celsius) and water-proof. However, bear in mind that some enamels may be sensitive to chemicals, even aggressive household detergants or cosmetics. If you wish to clean your jewellery, warm water and dishwashing soap should be sufficient.

With proper care, your Nora Kovats jewellery piece is intended as an heirloom.
