Bumiller Collection: A Hidden Gem

A Hidden Treasure Collection

English.

Did you know that in the heart of Bamberg’s old town, hidden in a medieval building accessible from a narrow side-alley, there’s an incredible collection of Islamic art from the Middle Ages? Neither did I, until recently. The Bumiller Collection includes about 6500 objects, crafted from metal, ceramics and stone, with most of them roughly dating to a period between the 7th and 13th century BCE and originating from what today encompasses Iran, Uzbekistan and Afghanistan.

Today, we spent the morning absorbed in the aura of this meticulously restored historical building and the treasures it contains. Highly recommended.

Me hunting for patterns as usual, and pomegranates.

Exquisite little bronze perfume or cosmetics bottles. Beauty paraphernalia was huge in the medieval Islamic world.
